BLACKBYTHEBAY.COM
The BlackbytheBay.com(BBTB) website was created in 2005 as a initial response to people constantly asking Sis. Paula Livers-Powell, of her adopted second home, "Are there Black people in Santa Cruz? As one of her former professor at UCSC aptly stated "if you don't tell the stories of your community, who will? BBTB.com is an online cultural experience to promote and solicit your support, feedback and most of all membership to keep this process ongoing and available to all. If you need a webpage on our website BBTB can help. As a people we've been great a long time. Let's continue to share. We look forward to hearing from you.
NAACP Santa Cruz County Branch est. 1949

This site seeks to identify cultural landmarks, archival treasures, and to share the contributions of individuals, organizations, and institutions promoting the black experience in meaningful ways.

Throughout California, aggressive gentrification in once predominately black communities has become a reality. The decreasing numbers of blacks in cities both big and small could ultimately diminish the legacy, voices and the significant documentation of their contributions and achievements to their communities.
